Frequently asked questions

What is ISO certification and why is it important?

ISO certification demonstrates that an organisation has a management system that meets the requirements of an internationally recognised ISO standard. Depending on the standard, certification can help businesses improve quality, manage risks, strengthen workplace safety, reduce environmental impact or protect information. ISO certification can also help demonstrate your commitment to customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.

How do I get ISO certified in New Zealand?
The ISO certification process starts with understanding the requirements of the relevant ISO standard and implementing a management system within your organisation. Southpac Certifications then conducts the certification audit, which generally includes a Stage 1 review and Stage 2 certification audit. Once the requirements are met, certification can be issued. The timeframe depends on your organisation, the standard and how ready your management system is for audit.
How much does ISO certification cost in New Zealand?
The cost of ISO certification depends on factors such as the size of your organisation, the number of employees, the scope of certification, the standard being assessed and the time required to complete the audits. Southpac Certifications provides a tailored quote based on your organisation and certification requirements rather than using a one-size-fits-all price.
How often do ISO certification audits take place?
ISO certification is an ongoing process rather than a once-off audit. The certification cycle includes a full certification audit in Year 1, surveillance audits in Years 2 and 3, followed by a recertification audit to begin a new three-year cycle.
Can I transfer my ISO certification to Southpac Certifications?

Yes. If your business is already ISO certified with another certification body, you can transfer your certification to Southpac without restarting the full certification cycle. Southpac manages the transfer process with your current certification body and takes care of the required updates with JAS-ANZ. Southpac does not charge a transfer fee, although your existing provider may have its own cancellation fees or terms.

Which ISO standards does Southpac Certifications certify?

Southpac Certifications provides certification for several internationally recognised management system standards, including ISO 9001 for Quality Management, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management, ISO 45001 for Occupational Health & Safety and ISO 27001 for Information Security. Southpac also provides Integrated Management System certification.

Does my business need to be a certain size to get ISO certified?
No. ISO certification can be suitable for organisations of different sizes and across a wide range of industries. The certification process and audit requirements are based on your organisation, its activities and the scope of the management system being certified.
Can Southpac Certifications help businesses across New Zealand?
Yes. Southpac Certifications provides management systems certification across Australia and New Zealand, with auditors located across both countries. Where possible, Southpac aims to use an auditor located near the organisation to help reduce additional travel costs.
